Chemical Skin Peel

Peel Process in Newcastle

Peeling the skin has been around for thousands of years. TCA chemical peels have been well studied and are the gold standard of chemical peeling agents.

TCA - Trichloroacetic Acid Peels is sometimes used when other peels have failed to correct the problem. It is also an effective treatment for -

  • Moderately wrinkled skin
  • Facial blemishes
  • Uneven pigmentation and acne

Chemical peels are most commonly performed for cosmetic reasons to enhance your skins appearance. Chemical peels may also remove pre-cancerous skin growths, soften acne facial scares and even control acne.

The results of a TCA peel are usually more dramatic and long lasting than those of AHA peels. The goal of chemical peeling is to remove a controlled thickness of damaged skin in order to stimulate normal healing and skin rejuvenation. The effects of chemical peeling are similar to what can be achieved with other skin resurfacing methods such as laser and dermabrasion with one important factor being that chemical peeling is the least expensive treatment of the three.

With just one TCA treatment you can expect an outstanding visible improvement in skin tone and texture, and a more youthful complexion. You can expect a significant reduction in the appearance of lines and winkles, superficial acne scarring, hyper-pigmentation and age spots, brighter and firmer looking skin and an increase in collagen production and cell renewal. Trichloroacetic acid is typically used as an immediate to deep peeling agent in concentrations ranging from 7%-35%. The depth of penetration increases as the concentration does. Here at Lets Face It Skin and Laser Clinic we use unbuffered concentrations of both 10%-12% and apply extra layers of product where necessary. We're considered the chemical peel specialists in Newcastle.

What does a skin peel feel like?

The cooler months are ideal for chemical peels because initially you are more sun sensitive. The application of TCA follows a thorough cleansing of the skin and is then applied with either a brush of a cotton tip depending on the thickness of the skin. Immediately you will experience warmth and a light burning sensation that lasts a few minutes and can be terminated at any time if you find the heat sensation too uncomfortable. The use of a hand held fan can assist in alleviating any discomfort at this stage. Some people experience slight redness and puffiness from the procedure but this is generally gone in a couple of hours. Once the procedure is complete, the healing process begins immediately.

When will my skin peel?

The TCA peel can be used on the face, neck and chest and is also wonderful on sun damaged arms. The recovery time varies for each area of the body. The face usually peels 4-7 days after the treatment. The neck to chest 6-8 days and the arms may not start to peel for 8 days. The peeling process also varies depending on the strength of peel we do and the area treated. Generally the peeling will last 3-5 days. Even though the peeling process is a bit of a nuisance, most people can still go about their day to day business as usual. It is very important not to peel the skin off during the peeling process but to let it come away when then underlying skin is ready. Your therapist will tell you when you can begin exfoliating as this is based on the area treated. During the time of peeling and healing you are required to keep the skin moist with creams and sunscreen. Lanolin is a good cream for you to use after our peel so maybe purchase it from your Chemist prior to your treatment.
